When planning weekend adventures in the National Park, it’s easy to forget that there are fun, simple and more sustainable alternatives to using the car. Public transport gives you quality time to relax and enjoy the views, whilst reducing your carbon footprint, and active travel keeps you healthy and connected to nature.
Lots of popular destinations in the National Park are accessible by public transport from the Central Belt of Scotland. We’ve created these easy-to-follow itineraries to help you plan a day out in the National Park combining sustainable transport and active travel. Whether you’re looking for a quick city escape or a full day out immersed in the mountains, there is a day out to suit everyone. It’s never been easier to plan a journey that matters.
Gateways: Favourite Routes from our new film.
Gateways showcases the people and places, the land where the lowlands and highlands meet and the birthplace of Scottish tourism, it is one of the outstanding places to walk, wheel and cycle, as our new short film “Gateways” demonstrates.
We teamed up with Round the World cyclist, cycling explorer and film maker Markus Stitz, to capture the people and places that make Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park a place to slow down, connect and explore by active travel.
