Drymen Meanders
We have chosen five of our favourite cycling meander routes around Drymen. All rides start/finish at the Village Square in the centre of the town.
We hope you enjoy them and the views and maybe a coffee en-route or at the end.
A mostly flat route which is easy to navigate following the cycling signs. The route through the Buchanan estate is on quiet roads and passes the ruins of Buchanan Castle.
Start at Drymen Village Square and head south down the hill until you are just past The Buchanan Arms Hotel. Turn right onto a gravel cycle path (you may want to push up the first bit, which is steep) and follow the cycling signs for Balmaha, heading through Buchanan Estate and along the pathways, road and cycle lane towards Balmaha. Re-join the B837 near Milton of Buchanan for the last stretch to Balmaha.
A short e-bike friendly route on quiet roads, gravel trails and shared use paths from NCN7 to the National Park Visitor Centre at Balmaha. Stunning views over Loch Lomond with options to visit the National Park Visitor Centre, Tom Weir Statue and Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha.
From Drymen Square go past The Clachan and up Old Gartmore Road to Garadbhan car park. Turn left onto the gravel forest road (following the WHW) for around 3 km before dropping down to Milton of Buchanan to join the B837 for the last stretch to Balmaha.
Combine the two Drymen to Balmaha routes for a circular via Balmaha
Follows quiet country roads from Drymen to Croftamie along NCN 7 which combines with the John Muir Way and West Highland Way in places. The But and Ben, Croftamie makes a great coffee stop. It’s mainly flat and easy to cycle with the route ending at Balloch Castle Country Park.
Leave Drymen Square down the hill (south) and quickly turn left into Gartness Road. At the end of this road go down some (easy) steps and across the bypass to continue towards Gartness. Follow the NCN7 signs along an old railway line to Croftamie. From here, follow NCN7 along quiet backs roads to Balloch.
Exploring the old road from Drymen to Aberfoyle over the moors along NCN7, with a steady climb at the start, we follow quiet singletrack roads and finish on a good section of cycle path.
From Drymen Square go past The Clachan and up Old Gartmore Road continuing over the top, down and through Dalmary to Gartmore and finally into Aberfoyle along a cycle path.
Aberfoyle is home to the Gravelfoyle gravel riding trails https://www.gravelfoyle.com/. If you are keen to get onto the gravel, after 6km along this route, at Old Drymen Road car park, you can turn left and enter the trail network around Gravelfoyle.
An undulating route along quiet roads, taking in the pretty village of Killearn and ending at a garden centre, café and bike shop.
Leave Drymen Square down the hill (south) and quickly turn left into Gartness Road. At the end of this road go down some (easy) steps and across the bypass to continue towards Gartness. Follow NCN7 south, when NCN7 turns off towards Croftamie head to Gartness and then on towards Killearn crossing the A81. At Killearn turn right onto B834 and follow the road to the roundabout, turn left onto A81 and then first left into the bike shop/garden centre.
