The Countryside Trust is supporting communities throughout the National Park to realise the benefits of active travel helping create healthier and sustainable communities taking steps to reduce their carbon emissions.
Active Travel Action Plans – Becoming Cycling Friendly
We have worked with the communities in Aberfoyle, Callander and Drymen, to produce their Active Travel Action Plans – these will help guide future sustainable travel projects and community actions. Click on an image to discover more!
As well as the action plans the communities of Lochgoilhead and Killin have ‘Place Plans’ with specific active travel actions. The communities have all been making great progress to become Cycle Friendly Communities (see below) and deliver many of their actions.
Cycle Friendly Community Award
The Cycle Friendly Community Award is nationally recognised and coordinated by Cycling Scotland celebrating community groups who take a lead role in ensuring that anyone, anywhere can enjoy the benefits of cycling.
After first completing an Active Travel Review and Action Plan, Callander, Aberfoyle, Drymen and Lochgoilhead each gained their silver level Cycle Friendly Community Award. With Gartmore, Brig O’Turk and Killin all progressing from the bronze award. Communities such as Gartmore have also installed secure cycling parking with thanks to funding from Cycling Scotland’s Cycle Friendly Community Fund.
